Gamification and Tactile Strategies for Diverse and Exceptional Students
Welcome back to my blog! Today I will be sharing two different uses of technology to support diverse learners or exceptional students using gaming or tactile technology.
Have you ever heard of Quizizz? If you haven’t you’re in the right place! Quizizz is an online assessment tool that allows students to take a gamified quiz at their own pace. This learning platform offers tools to create a fun and engaging learning experience for all students in the classroom or at home. On this platform teachers can create assessments, quizzes, lessons, host live activities, and homework assignments which will provide them with immediate feedback and results. With the help of AI quizzes can be made by teachers or generated according to the lesson. Sharing results with other teachers or parents has never been easier using Quizizz which helps both teachers and parents support and practice with their children to improve on any academic skills. Quizizz allows teachers to set timers, edit questions, and create power ups that will help and make learning more fun for all students. My favorite accommodations for a diverse classroom is the accommodations tab on this platform which can be used in many different ways. For example features like text to speech, dyslexia friendly fonts, number of attempts, bilingual dictionary and more. These features are excellent in the classroom and can help teachers meet the needs of all students. Not only can Quizizz be used for creating quizzes but also slide shows, flash cards, and videos these features are extremely important for teachers and can be shared with parents to practice and study at home with their children. As parents or even teachers I understand how technology can be intimidating, confusing, and hard to get the hang of but here is a video I hope helps all on how quizizz works and how teachers use this platform in the classroom.

Remember Kahoot from my last blog post? Blooket is similar to Kahoot! Let me explain to you how Blooket works. First teachers create an account by the way parents can create one as well to practice and study with their children at home. After creating an account teachers will have to choose a question set according to the lesson of the day. Questions can be created by teachers, chosen from a convertor tool, or searched from a discovery database. Secondly the teacher selects a game mode. Blooket has many different modes to choose from and even includes seasonal modes for the holidays to improve student engagement and make learning fun for all students. By setting the mode for the game to the students interests will grasp their attention and want to continue learning and reviewing this way. Next the teacher host the game and students will join in using a code given to the teacher for the specific game they created for the lesson. No account is required on the students behalf but all students will need a digital device to play on. This is a great way for students to review lessons and objectives learned in class that day or to review for an upcoming quiz/test in an exciting and game like way. Making activities into completion like style will improve the students engagement and want to improve on their skills to win the game. By rewarding students who win the round will help the others in the class improve and try harder the next time Blooket is being played. My favorite part about this learning platform is how the results can be analyzed therefore teachers know what needs to be reviewed more and what students need help in relating to any topics. This can be informative to their parents and they can help out the teaches by reviewing and studying at home. Not sure how Blooket works here’s a video for any teachers or parents that want to try out Blooket.
Hope this information was helpful for both parents and teachers. Thank you for reading! Peace out Ms. G!
